While we were up in Maine, we went to see Prairie Home Companion at the Stonington Opera House. The Opera House is a very special center for the arts located at the south end of Deer Isle. In the last year or so, it has finally been able to be open year around, providing entertainment for locals along with all the summer residents that show up in high season. In any case, it was very special that the Opera House was able to obtain a copy of the movie so early in its run. I don't see many movies, and I tend to pick the ones I see carefully. PHC was fun, upbeat (mostly!), and, amazingly, OK for a somewhat sensitive 9 1/2 year old girl to see too. The entire family had a good time watching it, admittedly made more fun by having listened to countless numbers of the radio show. I can't say that it was very deep, but we walked out of the theater pleasantly happy and well-entertained. An added special feature at the Opera House presentation was a Q&A with a co-producer of the film. Yes, Meryl Streep and everyone else sings their own songs, and what is on the film is what happened! Go see it!
