Kennedy Kapers. So, according to the Washington Post, Rep. Patrick Kennedy is heading back to rehab at the Mayo Clinic after a miserable series of events the past couple of weeks, including the car accident in DC and one in Rhode Island. Apparently, he was at the Clinic around Christmas as well. I agree with Riehl World View. Why doesn't the guy resign and deal with his serious personal problems? What possesses RI voters to re-elect him every two years? What about this man even makes him remotely qualified to serve as a "leader" of our country? It is hard to judge what is more upsetting -- Rep. Kennedy's inability to do the right thing, or have people around him to be sure he does the right thing, or the enabling that we Americans seem all to happy to do these days. See also Betsy's Page. Update: Richard at Hyscience is on the same page.
Goss Goes. The President announced Porter Goss's decision to move on from his position as head of the CIA yesterday. See Washington Post. The rumor mill is swirling about why and who is going to replace him. Kevin Drum at Washington Monthly and Belmont Club have good wrap-ups. This is going to take a little while to settle down, I imagine, but for now the blogosphere is certainly roiling. I personally don't know quite what to make of it. My sense was that he was doing a pretty good job, and its hard to imagine that twenty months is enough to address the systemic issues within the agency.
Zarqawi PR. Bill Roggio posts at the Counterterrorism Blog about the Zarqawi video out-takes. Quite a find by the US forces. Apparently Zarqawi is a bit of a white-collar jihadi, and neither he nor his henchmen know much about machine guns. Perhaps more distressing is Roggio's analysis, also at Counterterrorism Blog regarding the Alazam 5 rockets that appear in the video, which may be equipped to shoot radioactive material. Not good.
